City of Seaford releases amended election results
SEAFORD, Del. – City of Seaford officials met on Monday to recount the total number of ballots cast for the 2022 Municipal Election, held on April 16th.
The amended results are as follows:
- Total number of ballots cast: 602 (includes 115 absentee ballots)
- For Mayor:
- David Genshaw: 412
- Pat A. Jones: 189
- For City Council Member:
- Matthew MacCoy: 400
- Stacie Whitt Spicer: 199
The City of Seaford Board of Elections released the following statement on the recount:
“We, the City of Seaford Board of Elections, would like to express our sincerest apologies for the incorrect absentee ballot count announced and posted on the Certification of Election on April 16, 2022. The votes for each candidate on absentee ballots were counted as 2 individual votes in the overall total. This made the total number of absentee votes higher and inaccurate, therefore making the total vote count inaccurate as well.
Although this mistake did not impact the outcome of the election, we convened as the Board on Monday, April 25, 2022, to discuss and correct the totals, as reflected in the amended Certificate of Election issued immediately following the meeting. Again, we apologize for this clerical error and please know we hold our position as members of the Board in the highest of regards.”
