Buckingham Elementary School welcomes a new book vending machine

BERLIN, Md.- There’s a new vending machine at Buckingham Elementary School, but this one isn’t dispensing candy bars.

Instead, it’s a book vending machine.  Tuesday morning, students, teachers, and staff gathered in the front lobby to celebrate the new addition to the school. They had a ribbon-cutting event and even got the chance to try out the machine.

We are told last summer they were thinking of ways to get kids happy about reading and thought this would be the perfect way to do so.

“This morning was an example of how we are getting back to normal and it was exciting to see our leadership team here, the Community Foundation, and the kids and the kids getting excited about reading,” Dr. Christina Welch, Principal of Buckingham Elementary, said.

This project was supported by a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and a donation of books from the Briddell Foundation.
