Snow Hill old fire station revitalization paused

SNOW HILL, Md. – In Snow Hill, plans to repurpose the town’s old fire station have been put on pause.

The town was recently approached by Burley Oak Brewery about opening a new location at the old fire station. City officials then asked for public input and found that it was mixed.

Town Manager Rick Pollitt says that many are excited for a new business to come to the area, while others have concerns building and losing its identity as a community resource.

Pollitt adds they’re now looking into expansion-related issues like the water and sewer demand, as well as parking. He says this has now become a project that will take more planning than anticipated.

“When we first started this discussion, the original intent of the Burley Oak folks were to acquire the property and possibly be open by Memorial Day. We understand now with all of the issues we want to address that’s not likely,” Pollitt said.  “So we’re still very much so engaged in the process and excited about the opportunity it represents. We’re going to do everything we can to come down with the best decision for the most people.”

Pollitt says that concerns about the project have been forwarded to the Snow Hill Planning Commission, which oversees new developments.

That group’s next meeting will be Monday, May 2nd.
