LAUREL, Del. – Two teens were arrested Tuesday afternoon following a traffic stop.
We’re told shortly after 1 p.m., a trooper on patrol in Laurel saw a white Cadillac traveling above the speed limit on Laurel Road in the area of Shiloh Church Road. The trooper stopped the vehicle, and on contact with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Tyre Thomas, and a 15-year-old male juvenile in the front passenger’s seat, the odor of marijuana was detected inside the vehicle.
The trooper then asked the juvenile to step out of the vehicle and found him to be in possession of approximately 40 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and loaded 9mm Ruger handgun. Further investigation revealed that the handgun was reported stolen by the Milford Police Department in September 2020. The trooper then searched the vehicle and found approximately 25 grams of marijuana and a digital scale inside a backpack.
Both suspects were taken into custody as a result of the investigation.
The 15-year-old juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held at Stevenson House on a $25,502 secured bond.
