Salisbury man sentenced for firearm, drug offenses
SALISBURY, Md. – A Salisbury man has been sentenced on firearm and drug charges following a July 2021 investigation.
34-year-old Calvin Reid Jr. pleaded guilty last week to possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person and three counts of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, oxycodone, and methamphetamine, respectively.
On July 25, 2021, Reid became involved in a physical altercation at a local grocery store and fled the scene when police were called, dropping his handgun. The investigation led to a traffic stop of a vehicle that Reid was in when police say he swallowed a bag containing suspected cocaine to conceal it from law enforcement. Officers continued investigating, which led to the location of two storage units in Reid’s name, which were searched pursuant to a court-ordered search warrant.
Within the storage units, Reid’s home, and on his person, police found more than 60 oxycodone tablets, over 40 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 1.2 kilograms of cocaine, as well as other drugs, drug paraphernalia, a large amount of cash, and identity documents for Reid. At the time of this offense, Reid was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to two prior convictions for drug offenses.
A Wicomico County judge sentenced Reid to a total of 45 years in the Division of Corrections, with all but 25 years suspended, and five years to be served without the possibility of parole. Reid will be placed on supervised probation after completing the active portion of his sentence. Additionally, Reid agreed to forfeit the firearm, his vehicle, and more than $89,000 in drug-related cash proceeds.
