Queen Anne’s Co. Sheriffs warning citizens of phone scam
QUEEN ANNE’S CO., Md. – The Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a phone scam circulating the area.
Officials say the scammers are calling citizens and portraying themselves as deputies, by name, and asking for money to pay off the recipient’s warrant.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens that they will never call and ask for money to get rid of a warrant. If someone calls and asks for money or gift cards over the phone, it is a scam. No legitimate business or police agency will ask for gift card money to repay balances, get you out of jury duty, keep from turning off your electric, or anything similar.
