Local non-profit celebrates National Nutrition Month, emphasis on healthy choices
DELAWARE – The Food Bank of Delaware is making sure communities across the first state know the importance of healthy eating, as March marks National Nutrition Month.
All month long, the non-profit is hosting many virtual workshops and classes with a focus on nutrition. This year’s theme is “A World of Flavors”, with a focus on eating a variety of foods from various food groups. The education targets preschoolers all the way up to seniors, and nutrition educators say its best to start early and emphasize the importance of healthy choices.
The Food Bank adds that they recognize that many families depend on food pantries or other resources for food which is why it’s their mission to make sure their donations are packed with nutrition.
“So a lot of our nutrition materials and our curriculums that we teach go hand and hand with the foods they’re receiving at the pantries,” Nutrition Educator Chong Yi said. “We really want to encourage helpful eating behaviors for folks out in the community and fight food insecurity with that.”
