Doctor expresses the need for COVID-19 funding, to fight future surges

DELMARVA – As the world works to defeat the pandemic, American Doctors are highlighting what a lack of COVID-19 funding could do to the U.S.

According to Dr. Cameron Webb, Senior Policy Advisor for Equity on the White House COVID-19 Response Team, it’s all about investing in preparedness. He says the past two years have taught us that using every tool possible to fight this virus is the best strategy in the long run.

Dr. Webb tells 47 ABC, funding is essential to get tests, treatments, and vaccines to not only fight current cases but to be prepared for a potential surge.

“The reality is there’s a real threat without the additional funding and we’ll run out of those resources in relatively short order, I have a significantly strained supply,” says Dr. Webb. He adds, “We want to make sure we’re able to continue to provide these resources to folks in all communities and that’s going to be the key to our ability to stay safe no matter what may be coming our way.”

We’re told there’s also a possibility of a new variant coming our way, and the potential need for another vaccine. According to Dr. Webb, as of right now we may not have the resources to support the development of that new vaccine without sufficient funding.
