Convicted felon arrested for possessing firearm

1280 Michael Smith

PITTSVILLE, Md. – A Pittsville man is behind bars following a firearm investigation.

We’re told an investigation began in early February regarding a convicted felon, identified as 49-year-old Michael Smith, in possession of firearms. A separate investigation that led to a search warrant execution and the seizure of a handgun led to Smith, and it was learned that Smith had purchased and sold the handgun illegally while being convicted of a disqualifying crime.

On February 9th, law enforcement executed a search and seizure warrant in the 8000 block of Gumboro Road in Pittsville. During the search, deputies found two firearms, ammunition, and a digital scale with cocaine residue. Smith was not home at the time of the search warrant, and an arrest warrant was obtained.

Smith was arrested on the outstanding warrant on March 4th and was charged with CDS possession not marijuana, three counts of possession of CDS paraphernalia, two counts of possessing a rifle/shotgun with a felony conviction, and illegal possession of ammunition. He was held without bond.
