UPDATE: Crew member killed in military plane crash off Chincoteague Island

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – A military plane crashed just off of Chincoteague Island Wednesday evening.

Military officials confirm that two passengers were rescued from the water, and a third passenger died inside of the plane.

The two crew members who were rescued were taken to Wallops Island for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia 911 confirmed for 47 ABC that the crash happened around 7:31 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still unknown at this time.

Multiple agencies assisted with the crash including the Coast Guard, Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department, Wallops Flight Facility, Ocean City Fire Department, Stockton Volunteer Fire Department, and Chincoteague EMS.
