Wyatt’s Warriors organization raising awareness of congenital heart defects
SALISBURY, Md. – This Sunday, one Salisbury organization is raising awareness of congenital heart defects on the annual Wyatt’s Warriors Day.
Wyatt’s Warriors is a group founded by Jen Shipe, who lost her baby Wyatt to a congenital heart defect back in 2015. Since then, the group has worked to raise awareness of the defect and support parents who gave birth to a baby with one.
On Sunday, Jen says they just want to get people talking about it because it impacts more people than we may think.
“I don’t think we talk about CHD as much as maybe other things, when it is the leading cause and the most common birth defect… I think it’s crazy that, like I said, I had two healthy kids and I had no idea I had a 1 in 100 chance, so it’s actually every 15 minutes a baby is born with a congenital heart defect,” said Jen.
Jen says she’s been posting facts and statistics about the defect all month long. If you want to see those numbers or get involved on Sunday or with Wyatt’s Warriors in general, you can find them on Facebook.
