Worcester Goes Purple raising awareness about “fake pills” vs. prescription medication
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- A new community town hall series called “One Pill Can Kill” will kick off in Worcester County next month and raise awareness about “Fake Pills.”
Worcester Goes Purple is the driving force behind this initiative.
They said young people who may experiment with what they think is Xanax, Adderall, Percocet, and other medications are getting “Fake Pills.” These pills are being made by people who are using their own mix of ingredients. Fentanyl is a drug that is most widely used in the mix. We are told Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine and an amount as small as a few grains of salt will kill you.
During the town hall series, Worcester Goes Purple will educate attendees about how young people get these “Fake Pills” and what can be done to protect them.
“No matter what I do if I can save one person it is absolutely worth it,” Debbie Smullen, President of Worcester Goes Purple, said. ” And, I think education is key because if you don’t know then if you cant do anything about it, so it’s important to get the word out.”
There will be free Narcan training at each event.
Lieutenant Bob Trautman, Jr. from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office will be joining the meetings.
Registration is available online at: https://forms.gle/Dhxc8uFMd5EokAMY8. There will be a raffle drawing for a set of custom made cornhole boards from all participants registered.
