U.S. Senator Van Hollen pushing to get more support for kids with disabilities

MARYLAND — More money could be on the way to help children with disabilities.

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen introduced legislation to help restore full funding for educational and early intervention services. The bill would target getting some resources to detect kids from birth to kindergarten with early learning disabilities faster.

Senator Van Hollen said right now there is some support to help kids with disabilities, but it’s not enough as federal support has been cut in more than half in at least 20 years.

“Early intervention helps in terms of identifying learning disabilities and doing what we can to remediate them so that kids can get off as fast a start as possible, that’s why I support universal early education programs,” Senator Van Hollen said.

Senator Van Hollen said he is also pushing to increase federal support across the board for kids between kindergarten through grade 12.
