U.S. Senator comments on growing issue between Russia and Ukraine
DELAWARE – U.S. Senator Chris Coons returned from his trip to NATO countries, Germany, Poland, and Lithuania. Sen. Coons was a part of a bi-partisan delegation that headed to the Munich security conference to discuss how to address the threat posed by Putin.
Sen. Coons says the west is being mobilized to defend every inch of NATO territory. The senator also says that while Russia isn’t advancing toward NATO members, the situation is far from predictable. “Both reinforcing our sacred commitment to NATO, the most important alliance the United States has, and our determination to provide support for Ukrainian refugees, for Ukrainian resistance, and for the future of a free and democratic West,” says Sen. Coons.
Sen. Coons believes that billions of dollars will be needed to support the likely millions of refugees that will flood into Poland and a half dozen other countries in Europe. He also reiterates Putin’s goal which is to reassemble as much of the soviet union as he can.
He says with American troops in NATO countries on humanitarian efforts, they’re ready at any point to challenge Russia if necessary. “His chilling remarks a few days ago, that Ukraine is not a legitimate country and he doesn’t believe it has a claim on independence It’s a reminder as to how disruptive a force Putin is and will remain in world affairs,” says Sen. Coons. He adds, “Putin is a thug and a murderer, a force for evil in Europe who will only stop when we stop him.”
Sen. Coons adds, that this is a unifying moment for NATO.
