True You Maryland workshop opens up conversation on adolescent sexual health

WICOMICO CO., Md. – The Wicomico County Health Department is helping parents and guardians discuss a sensitive topic with their young-adults.

The department’s True You Program will host the Talking To Your Tweens and Teens About Consent virtual workshop.

The discussion aims to provide young adults with the skills to safely navigate potentially intimate encounters.

Organizers say they hope to help parents and guardians communicate with teens about consent which will allow them to create boundaries and establish healthy relationships. “These conversations can be difficult and they can be uncomfortable and many folks don’t know where to start,” True You Coordinator Alicia Miller said. “But each moment we spend in this conversation with our young people helps them to develop social skills and relationships skills. This teaches them how to protect themselves, their peers, and ultimately helps them thrive.”

The event will be held online Tuesday, February 2nd from 5:30p.m. till 7:00p.m.
