One arrested following Salisbury drug investigation
SALISBURY, Md. – Police say they have recovered a handgun and illegal narcotics following an investigation.
In 2021, the Salisbury Police Department received complaints from community members regarding narcotics transactions allegedly taking place in and around the 100 block of Catherine Street. Based on the community concerns, members of the Department’s Crime Reduction Unit opened an investigation.
Throughout the course of the investigation, detectives developed probable cause and presented applications for search and seizure warrants to a Circuit Court judge for three residential dwellings in the 100 block of Catherine Street. On February 3rd, members of the Salisbury Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and Maryland State Police served the warrants on those residences.
Detectives seized 280 individually packaged pieces of suspected crack cocaine, an amount of marijuana, suboxone strips, and paraphernalia indicative of distribution. Additionally, detectives located and seized a loaded .22 caliber revolver-styled handgun and a box of .22 caliber ammunition. A records search revealed that the firearm was not found to be stolen, and police are working to determine ownership and any connection to other crimes in the area.
Detectives identified 27-year-old Kevin Garcia as a suspect in connection with the controlled dangerous substance violations. Police say Garcia is not a residence of Catherine Street but was on scene when the warrants were served and was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with CDS possession, CDS possession with intent to distribute, and possession: CDS paraphernalia.
