New mobile pantry headed to Wicomico County for pets

SALISBURY, Md. – The Humane Society of Wicomico County is giving their food pantry some wheels so that it’s easier to get your furry friend the food it needs.

Next Saturday, February 12, the humane society will be at the HALO shelter parking lot from 11 to 2 with their new mobile pantry. This pantry is a part of the shelter’s food bank program which helps community members who need help feeding their pets. There will be dry cat and dog food, as well as kitty litter.

We’re told the program has been going on for years but with excess supplies and some unable to get to their shelter, they want to bring the help to them. “There is a short form, we’re going to need their ID to make sure they live in Wicomico County and just a little information to add them into the program. After that, no questions asked, if you need a bag, come take it from us,” says Megan Koester with the Humane Society of Wicomico County. She adds, “I just don’t want anyone to struggle to feed their pets, we don’t want anyone to struggle to feed their pets.”

This is a one-time event at the moment, but they’re hopeful it becomes a recurring offering. We’re also told they need more donations and volunteers.
