Hartly man arrested on weapon and drug charges following traffic stop

1280 Alvin Cunningham

DOVER, Del. – Police say a traffic stop Monday night led to several charges for a Hartly man.

At around 9 p.m., Dover officers made contact with a man, identified as 18-year-old Alvin Cunningham, who was stopped facing the wrong direction in the 300 block of Fulton Street. Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car and detained Cunningham so a search of the vehicle could be conducted.

Inside the vehicle, police found a 12 gauge shotgun concealed between the seats, brass knuckles, and 66 grams of marijuana.

Cunningham was later released on his own recognizance after being charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, possession of marijuana, and a traffic violation.
