Harrington woman charged with child abuse, 11-year-old allegedly hit with belt

HARRINGTON, Del. – A Harrington woman is facing charges including child abuse after police say they were notified about the possible abuse.

Police say in January, they were alerted to that possible abuse happening on Thorpe Street. While investigating, police say they learned an 11-year-old victim was hit by a belt multiple times at the home by 50-year-old Ericka D. Maddox. Police say the child was bruised after being hit.

After getting a warrant for her arrest, police say Maddox turned herself in to police. She was charged with child abuse of the third degree, and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released on her own recognizance pending a future court date.
