‘Stand By Me’ program helps Delawareans gain financial stability

DELAWARE – Are you looking to take charge of your finances in 2022? If so, one program is allowing Delawareans the chance to do just that.

The Food Bank of Delaware is now offering the Stand By Me program, in partnership with the first state and the United Way of Delaware. The free program provides participants with a personal, financial coach that helps them with budgeting, repairing credit, creating a savings, and more.

Financial coaches tell 47 ABC that understanding and properly managing one’s finances helps create future opportunities.

“I love just sitting down with a client and going through a budget and seeing them realize for the first time that they can have financial empowerment,” Kent & Sussex Counties Stand By Me coach Melissa Campino said.

“Sometimes it’s just overwhelming. Sometimes we start a budget and think now what do I do. What’s the next step? So the best thing to do is to have that coach that can help you get on the track and ask the right questions.”

Campino adds that they do offer referrals to other resources like SNAP benefits.
