Snow Driving: Tips to keep your car at top performance

DELMARVA, – After Monday’s snow fall, we checked in with automotive experts who gave us tips you need to know to avoid a slippery situation this winter.

“Yesterday was impossible, today is doable,” resident Michael Campbell said.

With many roads across Delmarva still covered in snow and ice, experts say you shouldn’t wait until the last minute to prepare your car for these conditions. “If you’re lacking on it, it’s just like your body. If you don’t take care of it and use preventative maintenance on it, it’ll fall apart on you,” Grease Monkey of Salisbury Manager Joshua Culley said.

“I did it all. I made sure that my tires were inflated. I made sure I had fuel in my car. I did not go out but I absolutely have to go out now,” said Campbell.

Management at Grease Monkey in Salisbury say checking your oil, coolant levels, and wiper blades are just little things that can help keep your vehicle on the road longer. Yet, the biggest thing to look out for.. “You just want to make sure your tires are in good shape because if you’re sliding around all over it could not be good for you,” resident Brennan Radke said.

“With this winter weather, you want to make sure your PSI’s are always up because winter weather drops them. So just because your tire pressure is good now, doesn’t mean its going to be good in the morning. So that needs to be checked everyday,” Culley said.

As many head back out on the road, drivers are advised to proceed with caution and know there’s help right around the corner. “If you’re unsure about any of that, just bring it by and well check it out for you,” Culley said.

Now keep in mind most general maintenance can be done yourself and you can save the big ticket items for the professionals.

Road experts also say that if you do plan on filling your tire at a do-it-yourself pump, make sure the machine is accurate and follow your vehicle’s manual.
