Road conditions to improve, motorists asked to be mindful of crews throughout weekend

MARYLAND – After all of this snow there is a lot of clean-up to take care of and officials tell us even though the snow has stopped falling, that doesn’t mean everything returns to normal.

Sherry Christian with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration tells 47 ABC, the focus has shifted to today’s windy conditions. She says even after they plow roads, the wind has been pushing the snow right back making clean-up duty a little difficult.

MDOT says they plan to be out all weekend to get the roads ready for the workweek, which they say will require a little bit of patience.

“Even though the road might be clear, you could be driving along and the next thing you know, boom, the wind is going to cover that street up again and you have poor visibility and really hazardous conditions in a matter of seconds,” says Christian. She adds, “Give at least three car lengths space between you and the plow in front of you. It just keeps everything safer for everyone involved, everyone can make it home.”

Re-freezing is also a major concern because temperatures are expected to stay low. MDOT is also asking drivers to be mindful of crews working to clear the roads this weekend.
