New human trafficking unit announced

DELAWARE – Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announces the formation of the Department of Justice’s first-ever Human Trafficking Unit.

After years of working to eliminate the growing issue of human trafficking, officials from the department of justice wanted to have a better partnership between victims’ advocates, law enforcement agencies, and community partners. That’s why they’ve created a unit that can strengthen those bonds while helping them bring criminals to justice.

“We’re trying to get the core root problems of this issue and how trafficking allowed and permitted to exist in the state of Delaware,” says Abby Rodgers, Director of Family Division of the DOJ. She adds, “I believe this unit will help already existing entities and agencies engage in a united front towards this problem, and to tackle this problem.”

The unit focuses on the prosecution as well as education and prevention concerning human trafficking.

Rodgers also says it’s important to note that human trafficking victims and human traffickers can be anyone.
