Milton Theatre to receive USDA funding to help with theatre renovations

MILTON, Del.- The Milton Theatre just received some much-needed funding for their Calliope Project which started back in 2017 to upgrade the theater.

The USDA is granting them $75,000 which is a nice step towards the $2.5. million that the theater is trying to raise. Theater management hopes to add a balcony, a space for backstage, improve the lighting, sound, and physical space, and add some cosmetic touches, as well as green rooms and bathrooms.

Although they’re only in phase 1 of the project, leaders with the Milton Theatre say, the funding shows what an important part of the community the theater is. “Adding the balcony, putting the balcony back, and adding all those seats would enable us to bring in bigger and better national acts to the Milton theatre,” says JP Lacap, a Marketing Director for Milton Theatre.” He adds “There are no barriers when you are in that physical space because all of you are enjoying the exact same thing at that exact same moment.”

The theatre is also holding a seat fundraiser where community members, organizations, or businesses can purchase a seat in the new balcony for $500, and get their name on a plaque.
