Legislation to address issues senior citizens are facing

MARYLAND – Friday afternoon, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen along with AAARP officials held a telephone town hall to address the work being done for senior citizens.

The senator used the call to answer questions from senior community members about health care, prescription drugs, and the federal coronavirus response.

Sen. Van Hollen says he’s working on a bill that would empower Medicare to negotiate drug prices, cap price increases, and cap out of pocket costs. “It would dramatically increase resources so that more people could get their healthcare and get the needs for aging Americans at home in a community-based setting,” says Sen. Van Hollen.

The Senator also discussed efforts to enhance social security and protect seniors from scams and fraud.
