Hogan makes announcements for the fight against COVID-19, new testing sites on the way

MARYLAND–The fight against the coronavirus continues in Maryland, with Governor Larry hogan announcing that the state will be opening six new hospital based testing sites.

And two of those sites will be right here on the Eastern Shore, one at University of Maryland Shore Regional Health and the other at TidalHealth.

These sites will be open 7 days a week and are expected to be operational by the end of next week.

Maryland health officials hope these new testing site will assist people who are struggling to find at-home tests during the Omicron variant surge.

“They are going to help our already strained emergency rooms hospitals from getting overrun from people who are just trying to get a test,” Gov. Larry Hogan, said. “We are administering and average of 63,000 tests every single day which is one of the highest testing rates in America.”

“The more sites that we can provide testing for and the more sites that we can provide vaccination for is a great help to bringing the pandemic to a close,” Dr. William Huffner, CMO and Sen. VP Medical Affairs at UM Shore Regional Health, and Incident Commander for COVID response, said.

The testing site at UM Shore regional will be run by the national guard, and there will be PCR and rapid tests available at that location.
