Fire destroys Laurel apartment building
LAUREL, Del. – Delaware State Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed an apartment building in Laurel Thursday evening.
We’re told the fire was reported shortly before 7 p.m. in the 100 block of North Central Avenue. Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and flames coming from a 16 unit, multi-family apartment structure. The building was occupied at the time of the fire, and we’re told all occupants were able to escape uninjured.
Officials say the origin of the fire was located, but the cause remains under investigation. Total damage has been estimated at $1 million. A total of 54 occupants were displaced as a result of the fire.
