Dredging project underway in Ocean City and Assateague
MARYLAND– Two dredging projects are underway in Ocean City and Assateague.
Dredge MURDEN is scheduled to work in both of the areas for about a month.
The first project is focused on the Ocean City Inlet where dredging will take care of the shoals.
If you’re unfamiliar it’s a material that can get in the way of boats causing damage and delays.
The next project is the Assateague Bypass Restoration, where material will be removed from both in and round the channel.
We’re told projects like this are critical for commerce and giving boats access.
“Specifically, in West Ccean City, any of the boaters that are there and any of the boating companies that are there that need to use that, this is there life line to be able to get safe and clear access to the Atlantic Ocean, from West Ocean City Harbor,” Danielle Szimanski, Ecologist and Project Manager with Baltimore District Core of Engineers, USACE, said.
We’re also told these projects happen between 2 to 4 times a year.
