UPDATE: Fatal crash investigation underway in Fruitland, victim identified

FRUITLAND, Md. – Police are investigating a fatal crash in Fruitland.

We’re told the single-vehicle crash happened at around 2:35 p.m. Wednesday on the northbound Route 13 Bypass, in the area of the St. Luke’s Road interchange. Maryland State Police responded to the scene and say they found what was believed to be a white 2014 Chevrolet Impala Limited passenger car off the roadway, which appeared to have left the pavement, hit a culvert, flip, and eventually caught fire. Officials say witnesses reported that the vehicle did not brake or make any corrective movements prior to leaving the roadway and crashing.

Through various resources, the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle was identified, and the family was notified. The driver has been identified as 44-year-old Kizzy Sturgis of Salisbury.
