DelDOT personnel advise driving with caution following first snow storm of the year
DELAWARE – Transportation experts say some extra caution could save your life on the icy roads following the first snow storm of the year.
Snow has the potential to freeze overnight, causing a slippery start to your morning.
DelDOT personnel say drive slowly, leave plenty of space between you and other vehicles, and give yourself extra time for commuting.
We’re told many main roads are clear and plowing in most neighborhoods won’t be done until early morning, so you should keep that in mind as you back out the garage and on to the highway. “We’re probably not going to be out till the first part of tomorrow, so that’s something you should factor in. The primary and secondary roads may look good but you might have to trouble getting out of your neighborhood,” Director of Community Relations at Delaware Department of Transportation’s C.R. McLeod said. “Granted we’re going to be putting salt down, again using a little extra caution with your driving and slowing down will help prepare incase there are some slicks spots.”
Drivers are also advised to clear all snow off your car before you get out of the driveway. This makes the road more visible for you and the vehicles around.
DelDOT also wants to remind drivers that their website and app allows you pull up 200 traffic cameras statewide so you can see conditions before you hit the road.
