DELAWARE – People in Delaware will have to once again wear masks whenever they are inside of a public setting, regardless of vaccination status.

The mask mandate, which Governor John Carney announced on Monday, takes effect on Tuesday, January 11 at 8:00 and includes grocery stores, gyms, restaurants, bars, and more. It comes as Omicron cases surge across the country. Governor Carney also announced plans to extend the school and child care facilities mask requirements. He also deployed additional members of the Delaware National Guard to help hospitals.

In a statement, Governor Carney said: “Our hospital systems are facing a crisis-level situation with record numbers of Delawareans seeking emergency care. We need all Delawareans in the fight as we face this winter surge of COVID-19 to make sure our hospitals are not overrun.”

Churches and other religious facilities are exempt from the order. Children under the age of 2 should not wear masks.
