“Birding the Harriet Tubman Byway” tours coming up this weekend
DORCHESTER CO., Md. – Delmarva Birding Weekends and Harriet Tubman Tours teamed up to give community members a memorable experience.
Starting this coming weekend, they’re launching “Birding the Harriet Tubman Byway,” organizers say participants can go on a guided self-drive tour where they’ll learn about the life of Harriet Tubman.
The route highlights the farms and Chesapeake marshes of Dorchester County which is home to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. We’re told the unlikely pair wanted to combine the rich history of Tubman in Dorchester County, with the wildlife she encountered. “We do a lot of different things that just don’t apply to a historian, it just doesn’t apply to the bird watcher, you have a chance to mix them together and get an understand of them,” says Alex Green, Co-owner of Harriet Tubman Tours LLC. Jim Rapp, Co-Owner of Delmarva Birding Weekends adds, “This is one of the most significant stories on the planet. This is not just important to the Eastern shore, this has national, international implications, and it’s in our backyard.”
