Bill introduced to outlaw fake vaccination cards
DELAWARE – A bill recently introduced in the Delaware general assembly would outlaw fake vaccination cards. Legislators say states have had to waste resources dealing with fake vaccination cards during the coronavirus pandemic.
Recently, David Hodges, a Delaware man was arrested and charged with a federal misdemeanor for manufacturing and selling fake vaccination cards over the internet and similar cases have been reported across the country. Although it is a crime on the federal level, we’re told some legislators wanted to address it on the state level as well.
That’s why Representative Paul Baumbach introduced House bill 302 which would criminalize the making and use of fake vaccination cards. He says although it’s already against federal law, he wants extra steps to be taken on the state level so these forgeries are better handled. “This is another way that we can help out is by fine-tuning our laws to make sure that both in the current and the next public health crisis that we’re in a better position,” says Rep. Baumbach. He adds, “So I think having different tools for different levels of transgressions is appropriate.”
The bill is currently sitting in the House Judiciary Committee and will be looked at again after the assembly’s break.
