Arrests made in Georgetown double homicide case

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested 22-year-old Yony Morales-Garcia and 21-year-old Emner Morales-Garcia in connection to a double homicide investigation.

On Saturday, January 22, around 7:30 pm, the Georgetown Police Department and Delaware State Police responded to the El Nopalito Restaurant at 22095 DuPont Boulevard for reports of two people shot at the restaurant.

Police say a group of Hispanic males was asked to leave the restaurant earlier in the night due to disorderly behavior and dispute with patrons. After an investigation was made, two of those males were identified as Yony Morales-Garcia and his brother, Emner Morales-Garica.

Police tell us they were both asked to leave but later returned to the restaurant, both wearing masks. Police say one of the suspects approached Armando Vicente Chilel Lopez and removed his necklace.

Lopez lunged at the suspect who stole the necklace then was shot by the second suspect. Police say when the suspects were fleeing the scene, the second suspect shot a second round into the dining area, striking Honorio Velasquez.

Velasquez sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lopez was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.

After, an investigation, Georgetown Police Department and Delaware State Police were able to identify Yony Morales-Garcia and Emner Morales-Garica as the suspects.

On Thursday, January 27, warrants were issued for their arrests for 2 counts of first degree murder, first degree robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and first degree conspiracy.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, police made a traffic stop and conducted a search warrant at the 17000 block of Windward Boulevard in Milford. Police took both suspects into custody without incident and transported them to Delaware State Police

Both men were charged and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $2,120,000 cash bond.
