MARYLAND – Legislators are currently busy preparing for the 2022 Maryland General Assembly.

Speaker Pro Tempore Sheree Sample-Hughes spoke with us about some of the top priorities going into the session. She says the general assembly will be working on legislative redistricting maps for the state starting day one.

Speaker Pro Tem Sample-Hughes adds they’ll be focusing on climate change policies, flood mitigation, police reform, transportation, broadband, telehealth, and much more. She also tells 47 ABC, legislators are ready to represent the eastern shore’s needs in Annapolis.

“It’s about for us to be able to listen to the concerns of the constituency as we go throughout the interim we hear what some of those concerns are and that’s how we shape legislation, and that’s how we’re able to improve things if you will,” says Speaker Pro Tem Sample-Hughes. She adds, “I certainly know it’s going to be a robust session, we were very eager and we were able to accomplish a lot in 2021 so in 2022 I’m certainly believing we’re going to be on the same trajectory.”

2022 will also be an election year for Maryland and the Maryland legislature is scheduled to convene on January 12, 2022.
