Project Blue Light: Honoring fallen police officers this holiday season
SNOW HILL, Md.- The Snow Hill Police Department is honoring fallen police officers this month by participating in a project.
The initiative is called Project Blue Light. It started in 1989 in Philadelphia, but it’s now put on nationwide.
During the month of December, you put a blue candle in your window to recognize the sacrifice and loss of officers who died in the line of duty.
The Chief of the Snow Hill Police Department said this initiative shows that although your loved one is no longer celebrating the holidays with you they are still present, and with the loss of those officers locally it’s especially important to remember them.
“This past year we lost Corporal Keith Heacook and that was tragic it’s on all of our hearts and minds,” Chief Andrew McGee, of the Snow Hill Police Department, said.
“There’s an inherent risk in our profession but it’s so important to recognize those who we lose especially in the line of duty this year we’re probably going to break every record,” Chief McGee said.
Chief Andrew McGee said we will probably break record numbers for line of duty deaths with officer COVID-19 deaths adding to the numbers.
So far, we are around 439 line of duty deaths this year.
