Popular deli restaurant closes after owner retires, owner happy with the legacy his family left
SALISBURY, Md. – After 26 years, a Salisbury favorite is closing its doors, the Subside Del on Truitt street.
Subside Deli has closed its doors after its almost 80-year-old owner Allen Davis announced his retirement. Davis says his late wife opened the shop back in 1995, borrowing inspiration from a popular deli in Pennsylvania.
David tells us, she ran it for several years until Davis retired from his insurance job and started helping at the deli. He says after his wife passed, his children and siblings stepped in to help out to carry out her legacy.
Davis says he can retire happy, knowing with the mark he and his family have left on Salisbury. “We’ve tried to serve a quality product during the years. I think our service to the community has been good and we’re just happy we’ve lasted this long,” says Davis. He adds, “I thank everybody for coming and patronizing me during these years, especially during the closing part.”
Davis says there is a chance the restaurant could come back under new management, but he will no longer be part of it.
He also tells 47 ABC, he hopes to use his retirement for a cruise.
