“No sign of data compromise” following health department network security incident

BALTIMORE, Md. – Maryland health department officials say there’s no evidence that any data has been compromised following a “network security incident” that prompted the department to take its website offline over the weekend.

The department’s servers will remain offline “out of an abundance of caution” and data updates will resume as soon as possible, Spokesman Andy Owen says. We’re told the Maryland Security Operations Center is investigating a “network security incident” involving the health department.

Officials say they are working with federal and state law enforcement and also say that potentially affected employees and partners have been informed.

Owen did not say whether the state’s COVID-19 pandemic response is affected.
