Laurel Bulldogs claim 1A state championship
NEWARK, Del. – Laurel proved to be the best team in Class 1A Saturday. The Bulldogs dominated St. Elizabeth at the University of Delaware, 28-14. Laurel hoisted its first championship trophy for football in 30 years.
The Vikings scored first, but Laurel didn’t back down. Javier White scored a 6-yard rushing touchdown with 4:18 left in the first quarter.
From there, the Bulldogs took control of the momentum.
Omori’Yon Cannon’s interception set up a 28-yard touchdown run by White. Laurel took a 14-8 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs were gifted a golden opportunity after a botched punt gave them the ball at the Viking 3. Kylse Wilson scored the first of his two second half touchdowns to help seal the victory.
