Advocates push climate change ahead of next legislative session
MARYLAND – Tuesday evening, environment advocates across Maryland gathered to prepare a push for more climate legislation ahead of the next legislative session.
The zoom event included leaders from many areas of environmental studies ready to tackle the crisis climate issue in the state. Points of discussion included the reduction of greenhouse gases and more electric alternatives.
There were are also concerns over climate-related health- issues and extreme weather damage like flooding. Advocates say the only way to get change is to push for more legislation.
“We need thousands of people writing postcards, sending emails to put pressure and let people know there’s no other direction to go but forward on climate change,” Senator Paul Pinsky said.
“Using good technologies and building schools, using solar power where it’s appropriate and cheap. Together when can win all these battles over the next 10 years. We really need 5 to 10 years to tackle this,” Delegate Kumar Barve said.
Those legislators say they plan to address creating more quality green jobs and providing more support for environmentally troubled communities across the state.
