Accomack Co. shooting leaves one critically injured, suspect arrested

MELFA, Va. – A Virginia man is behind bars following a shooting that left one in critical condition.

According to police, the incident happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, in the 29000 block of Lankford Highway. When deputies were responding to this location, they were notified that the victim was being taken to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and that the suspect was possibly armed with the victim.

When deputies arrived at the hospital they located a 23-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Further investigation led to warrants being obtained for 22-year-old Jaylon Harmon of Exmore, VA. He has been arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, child abuse/neglect, and reckless handling of a firearm causing serious injury.

Harmon is currently being held without bond. We’re told no other suspects are being sought in this incident.
