14-year-old charged following bomb threat at Easton High School
EASTON, Md. – A juvenile has been charged in connection to a bomb threat at Easton High School Tuesday morning.
We’re told at around 9:30 a.m., a student received a text message from an unknown number about a possible bomb threat or some other form of mass violence that would take place during lunch. A screenshot of the text message made its way to social media, where another student brought it to the attention of school faculty. Students were immediately evacuated and bussed to a secondary location.
Bomb Detective K-9 Teams from the Maryland State Police and Maryland Capitol Police were called in and a thorough search of the exterior and interior of the school complex was completed. Just after 1 p.m., the school complex was deemed safe, and operations were returned.
After extensive interviews and follow up investigation, detectives with the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office learned that the threatening message originated from a 14-year-old female attending Easton High School. The juvenile has been charged with threat of mass violence, threat of arson, and disturbing school operations.
A juvenile referral has been completed and forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services for further action.
