Welfare check leads to DUI, firearm charges for Del. man

LAUREL, Del. – Police say a welfare check early Tuesday morning led to multiple charges for a Laurel man.

At around 1 a.m., troopers were called to the Oasis Truck Stop to check on the welfare of an unconscious man in the driver seat of a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup. On arrival, troopers found the vehicle at the gas pumps with the driver, identified as 43-year-old Jerome Slavinskas III, passed out inside.

Troopers were able to wake up Jerome, and observed signs of impairment during the interaction. A consent search was conducted, resulting in the recovery of approximately 2.09 grams of crystal meth on his person, in addition to approximately 2.09 grams of marijuana, a 12 gauge shotgun, Remington model 700, crossbow, 17 12-gauge rounds, and 5 30-60 rifle rounds.

Jerome was held at SCI on a $53,550 cash bond on a list of charges, including 3rd offense driving under the influence of drugs, firearm possession, and driving on an expired license.
