‘Margaritas for Margarita’ fundraiser for dog needing major surgery, EasySpeak Spirits helping out
MILFORD, Del. – EasySpeak Spirits and community members are holding a fundraiser for a dog who needs life-changing surgery.
The owner of the 11-month-old ‘Margarita’ the dog, noticed her hips weren’t growing properly like her front shoulders, and she would always walk on her back tippy toes. After a trip to the vet, and one x-ray later, her owner found out she was born with severe hip dysplasia, meaning neither ball on either hip sits in the correct place in the socket. Unfortunately, the only fix is a double hip replacement at a special orthopedic surgeon in Annapolis, MD costing $7,000. Without it, Margarita would have to be put down due to severe pain.
We’re told the owner adopted Margarita from the First State Animal Center and SPCA, and her co-worker and medical director, Katie Mitchell saw how much pain she was in, and wanted to help.
“She has good days but she has more bad days than she has good, she has a really hard time getting up when she’s laying down, sometimes she cries out just because she’s in pain,” says Mitchell. Mitchell says Margarita has such a sweet disposition and has her whole life ahead of her.
We’re told EasySpeak spirits in Milford caught wind of the owner reaching out for help and have put together a GoFundMe. Along with the GoFundMe fundraiser, the restaurant is donating $1.oo of every margarita purchased, to the fundraiser.
“Even if we need to do another fundraiser or something like that, I know that we’re willing to but I think at this point in our lives, we’re all just hoping that we don’t have to go that far.,” says Marissa King, owner of EasySpeak Spirits.
King also tells us, she loves to give back to the community and hold fundraisers, and her restaurant is known as family and dog-friendly. King says she felt the need to help out.
You can donate at the restaurant without purchasing a margarita, or donate directly to the GoFundMe page by clicking here.
