Lawsuit filed to stop illegal move of Talbot Boys statue to Virginia
TALBOT, CO. Md. – Preserve Talbot History has filed a lawsuit against the county to stop them from allegedly illegally moving the Talbot Boys statue out of state.
The statue has been in its current location for 107 years and is a war memorial erected by citizens of Talbot County to remember their ancestors who fought in the Civil War. Members of Preserve Talbot History and residents of the county are asking that the administrative resolution the county used to remove the monument and move it to Virginia be made null and void because it was done illegally.
“The Talbot County Council acted illegally in the manner in which they are attempting to move the Talbot Boy’s statue to an out of state location. Citizens, not the politicians, should decide the fate of the monument. We believe that the question should be put to referendum for the voters to decide”, said David Montgomery president of Preserve Talbot History. “The statue should remain right where it has been for over one hundred years so present and future citizens can learn of their history and heritage. We oppose the efforts by the woke cancel culture crowd to erase our history. Toward these ends we ask fellow citizens to go to www.PreserveTalbotHistory.org to contribute financially to help us fight this legal battle. It is about preserving our county and national history so future generations can learn from it.”
We’re told that due to the use of an administrative resolution by council member Frank Divilio, the council did not seek public input in the matter. The resolution was passed in September after a letter had been received by members of the council from the Chief Executive Officer of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation. It stated that their conditions had not been met for the relocation of the Talbot Boys monument to the Cross Keys Battlefield in Virginia.
