$2M investment to help Delaware farmers, local food supply chain operations

DELAWARE- Governor John Carney announced on Thursday a $2 million dollar investment to create the First State Integrated Food System Program.

We’re told this is SEED funding and will help stabilize and strengthen family farms and the local food supply chain operations. The program will focus on three aspects in the food supply chain: production, processing and distribution, and consumer outlets.

The Department of Agriculture said COVID-19 has impacted many farmers,  so this program will help find answers to major problems.

“There are citizens that have trouble getting access to food so this money is going to go a long way to help find solutions to that as well as helping some of our producers that want to get into some of these markets,” Michael Scuse, Delaware Agriculture Secretary, said.

The Secretary of Agriculture said with this money they hope to help producers who want to make changes to their farming operations, including producing and packaging products from their farms for consumers.
