Weather Tidbits: Ecological Seasons II

This Weather Tidbits dives into the last three ecological seasons. Serotinal season deals with deciduous leaves changing colors especially in high latitudes. It also includes young birds maturing and preparing to join adult birds for the autumn migration. Serotinal happens during August & September.

Autumnal season focuses on leaves changing colors and falling to the ground. Plants also ripen and die, along with birds migrating back to their winter habitats during this season. Autumnal begins in September and concludes in November or even December. Hibernal season deals with dormancy for plants and animals. Animals are hibernating while birds have settled in winter habitats. Deciduous trees are bare and fallen leaves are decaying. Hibernal season tends to be the longest season; ranging from November to March.
