Prince Street elementary dance team shows off their beats and moves for a music video

SALISBURY, Md. – The Rhythm and Roots drum and dance team at Prince Street elementary got a chance to show off their moves in a music video. We’re told the team partnered with Hip Hop Public Health in New York to help shoot a video, featuring the drummers and dancers.

The team is leading a HYPE  break dance and even the teachers were apart of the video shoot for a virtual gala in October. Those with the Hip Hop Public Health group say, this is a part of their initiative to build health equity through music, art and science.

Students on the dance team say, it feels amazing for them to be a part of this. “When my Dad passed away Mr. Thomas started this group and started with me and my brothers, so the real reason is to play drums,” says eight grade drummer, Gary Travers. Akayah Joynes, a fifth grade drummer adds, “I’m glad that we got this opportunity to do this because it’s many options to do things, but I chose this to do. I don’t know, it feels great.”

We’re also told Hip Hop Public Health is hiring Darryl McDaniels from RUN DMC, to be a part of the virtual gala.
