“It will be a wonderful opportunity:” Mobile library vehicle to make positive impact in Worcester County

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Residents in Worcester County can look forward to getting a mobile library vehicle in the future.

The Worcester County Commissioners approved the recommendation by the Worcester County Library Director this month.

The Library was awarded a $100,000 American Rescue Plan Act grant to purchase the vehicle, which will carry books, give out library cards, and serve as a wifi hotspot.

Commissioner Chip Bertino said he’s looking forward to seeing the vehicle hit the road, especially because it will have a positive impact.

“It will give us the opportunity or the library the opportunity to reach out to the community to our younger patrons as well as the older patrons and bring the library to them at different functions, at different events throughout the county, throughout the year, it will be a wonderful opportunity for those who are unable to get to the library, in-person for the library to come to them,” Bertino said.

We are told FY-21 funds of $75,000 will be used to offset the cost to buy the unit. The mobile unit will be on location at local festivals and community celebrations.
