History week to involve everyone throughout Worcester county
WORCESTER CO., Md. – In Worcester county, this week is the first ever county wide history week. Museums, libraries, and historical sites are participating to bring some enlightening heritage back to the county.
Those with the Ocean City Life Saving Museum began a history week back in 2017. However, their former board president, Nancy Howard wanted to make it county wide. With the help of county commissioners, 2021 marked the first year it would happen.
In honor of it, you’ll see low cost or free events around the county including tours of historical sites and museums. Museum staff tell us, it’s something that deserves recognition across the state. “We really wanted to come together and offer a full week of exciting programs, some of them are low costs, some are maybe free. Just so the community can look forward to one week out of the year that’s dedicated to history,” says Christine Okerblom, a curator at the OC Life Saving Museum. She adds, “We just have such a rich history and it’s important to appreciate that aspect of Maryland, we come here to enjoy our beaches, to enjoy the wide range of recreational activities, and people can also come here to learn and enjoy different programs that talk about history.”
